"motor vehicles which release 34% of nitrogen into the atmosphere, 51% of carbon dioxide which ultimately cause rise in average temperature of earth, acid rain and pollute the water bodies. These automobiles also generate solid waste..."
Modern world is full of environmental problems ranging from recycling of a plastic waste to atmospheric pollution and ozone depletion, credit goes to humans , who for their self- motivated interest have exploited earthly resources to such an extend that we are digging our own grave. Perfect example of this could be of automobiles like motor vehicles which release 34% of nitrogen into the atmosphere, 51% of carbon dioxide which ultimately cause rise in average temperature of earth, acid rain and pollute the water bodies. These automobiles also generate solid waste such as the tires, every year millions of tires are thrown away either they are not properly disposed or they are not recycled at all. Other issues include air pollution , noise pollution , water pollution and also water wastage.
All these issues led to search for alternatives and one alternative came in the form of electric vehicles. These vehicles does not run as per conventional sources of energy such as petroleum or diesel rather they run on electricity which is a renewable and non polluting source of energy. It is predicted according to various surveys that electric vehicles would be the future of automobiles. Electric vehicles include auxiliary batteries which provide electrical energy to the car. EV also include charge port means that it links the electric car to the power source. Electric vehicles creates less noise pollution and it is also cost effective. They require less maintenance because repairs are quite cheap and less expensive. According to the data of government of India, there are more than 13 lakh electric vehicle which are in functioning with Delhi being the state with highest electric vehicles. But this is somewhat one sided story which we have seen everywhere. Other side of the picture could be more dangerous than this because it has certain loopholes as well. First is that the battery which is used in the vehicles, makes it difficult to dispose them off after they have become useless. Then electric car has very less range in terms of the distance it can cover which would force the people to not buy e- vehicles and continue to use the existing vehicles which cause pollution. Also e – vehicles unlike conventional automobiles, which require only a few minutes to replenish their gas tanks, charging an electric vehicle takes many hours.[1] So this could be in some or other way be destructor for the environment. So introduction of EV in market can be sustainable for environment in some aspects but it can’t be said that it can completely replace conventional automobile and make environment free from pollution.
