The main aim of this research paper is to show the implementation of Blockchain Technology and new trends in waste management Our planet is facing big environmental problems, and dealing with waste has become a major focus in environmental law. This research paper looks at how the laws about waste are changing and explores new ideas to help the environment. By studying real-life cases, and want to show how these legal changes are shaping the way we handle and take care of our waste. The goal is to make it easier to understand how laws are evolving to make waste management better for the future of our environment¹ .This review looks at how new technology is helping us make less waste and produce electricity. In the face of growing environmental challenges, waste management has become a central concern within the field of environmental law. From turning trash into energy to using biodegradable materials, we're diving into the cool ways technology is making our planet cleaner and greener. Everything has two sides one is positive and other is negative. Same like technology, positive side makes things good for our earth future. ²
KEYWORDS:- Blockchain Technology, Environmental, Environmental problems, Waste Management, Biodegradable.
INTRODUCTION:-
lots of people in cities are making and buying more things. But guess what? This creates a huge pile of trash. And dealing with this trash is not going so well. People are mixing up what should go where, there aren't enough places to handle it, and not much is getting recycled. Recently, it's gotten even trickier. People aren't doing a great job managing the waste, there's not enough info on how to do it right, and some rules are making it tougher. Plus, there's this thing where rich countries send their trash to poorer countries. Now, this trash mess is causing some serious worries. People are concerned about too much plastic everywhere, trying to find new ways to handle our trash using sunlight, and figuring out how to deal with medical waste safely. It's a big problem, and everyone's trying to find ways to deal with waste. Nowadays many Emerging Technologies are here to deal with waste or clean our environment. We can say that Emerging Technologies for waste management. ³
ROLE OF EMERGING TECHNOLOGIES:-
Waste management may not be a very attractive topic, but it's getting a high-technology makeover that's changing the game. Imagine a world where garbage bins can talk, robots sort through our recycling, and our trash turns into power. It's not science fiction – it's the exciting reality of emerging technologies in waste management. In this paper, we will explore many new technologies related with waste management for our healthy environment.⁴
Smart Bins: A Smarter Approach to Collection
In the heart of urban centres, smart bins are quietly revolutionizing the way we handle waste. Equipped with sensors and connected through the Internet of Things (IoT), these bins are changing the game. ⁵
Smart bins equipped with sensors are changing the way we collect garbage. These bins can tell us when they're full, optimizing collection routes and reducing unnecessary trips.
for instance, in Barcelona and Spain, where a smart waste management system uses sensors to detect when bins are reaching full capacity. This data is then transmitted to a central system, optimizing waste collection routes and reducing unnecessary trips, thus saving both time and resources.
2. Waste to energy conversion:-
Waste-to-energy is a way of turning non-recyclable trash into useful energy, like heat, fuel, or electricity. Companies that specialize in waste-to-energy manage urban waste, the everyday trash that can't be recycled or composted. ⁶
What if I told you that your banana peel could power a light bulb? Sounds crazy, but it's true! In places like Copenhagen, they have these high-tech places called waste incineration plants. They don't just throw away the trash; they burn it, and this burning creates energy. In Copenhagen, this energy is used to make electricity and heat for homes. So, your trash isn't just garbage; it's power waiting to happen.
3. Blockchain for Waste Tracking:
Blockchain, known for its secure and transparent record-keeping, is finding applications in waste management. This ensures accountability and transparency in the waste management chain. Blockchain is not only for cryptocurrencies. It’s making waves in waste management too.⁷
Case Study: IBM's Plastic Bank Initiative
IBM's collaboration with Plastic Bank uses blockchain to create a transparent and traceable supply chain for recycled plastic, providing incentives for collectors and ensuring the proper recycling of plastic waste.⁸
4. Robots in waste management:-
In the emerging technology for waste management Robots occupy a special place. Yes because Robots equipped with sensors and cameras can identify materials like plastics, metals, and paper.
In Sweden, the ZenRobotics Recycler is a robot that identifies and sorts different materials.⁹
5. Circular Economy Practices:
The idea here is to create a circle where nothing is wasted. Companies are finding ways to reuse and recycle materials, reducing the need for constant production of new goods. Instead of throwing things away, we find clever ways to keep using them. ¹⁰ We fix stuff, reuse it, make it almost new again, or turn it into something else.
6. Mobile-based waste management solutions Swachh Bharat 2.0:-
Mobile Apps Transforming Waste Reporting Discuss how mobile applications like the Swachhata App are empowering citizens to report waste concerns and improve communication with local authorities. Swachhata App, an initiative by the Government of India, allows citizens to report and track sanitation and waste management issues. ¹¹
Satellite Imaging for Illegal Dumping Detection:
Explore how satellite imaging is used to detect and prevent illegal dumping in remote areas is also helping to clean and green environment.
CONCLUSION:-
In conclusion, these cool new technologies are like superheroes for our waste. They turn garbage into power, make our cities cleaner, and help the environment. With smart bins talking, robots sorting, and waste turning into energy, the future of waste management looks exciting and green. Let's keep using these innovative solutions to make our planet happier and healthier.¹²
